Chris Townsend donates £350 to Hamer Boxing

Keep-fit enthusiast Chris Townsend has donated £350 to Hamer Amateur Boxing Club and Community Fitness Centre.

The 32-year-old raised the money by competing in The North West Sprint Triathlon on 11 September when he had to endure a 500 metre swim, a 13 mile bike ride followed by a 3.3 mile run.

Chris said: “I was 22 stone when I joined Hamer Amateur Boxing Club and after 12 months of training there I lost seven stone.

“The club relies on subs, donations and good will to keep operating so I just thought it was time for me to repay them and help the one's that helped me in my darkest moments.

“I set up a fund-raising page to help repay the club and the coaches for all of their time and effort they put in to encourage me to lose weight.

“The triathlon was gruelling which had me training on five nights a week for five months, yet I managed to complete it in a time of one hour thirty six minutes.”

Head coach Steven Connellan said: “It is a fantastic gesture by Chris."
