Rugby Union: Littleborough RUFC 21 - 13 Aldwinians RUFC

Date published: 20 December 2016

Success at home again for Littleborough, giving them two wins in their last two matches to end the year on a high.

It was very misty at kick off and Littleborough playing down the slope got an immediate penalty followed with a good conversion by Andy Walton, for a good a start.

When Aldwinians started to attack, good tackling from Jack Whittles and Walton and Murphy Holt kept them out.

Play stopped for five minutes due to an injury to an Aldwinians player.

When the match recommenced, a good ball passing movement down the Littleborough threequarters led to a pass by Whittles to his winger, Nathan Ripley, who ran in Littleborough’s opening try. The conversion attempt failed.

Pressure then from Aldwinians in Littleborough’s 22 metres was met by good defence from Littleborough, but eventually a penalty was awarded to Aldwinians ,which they converted to open their account.

Play was held up again for a more serious injury to Aldwinians player; an ambulance was called for and the player was made as comfortable as possible whilst the game was restarted on an adjacent pitch.

Immediate attack again once more by Littleborough led to a penalty; succesfully taken by Nathan Coop.

Henry Ashworth and Robert Chadwick came on for Littleborough.

Pressure from the Littleborough pack gave Murphy Holt the opportunity to cross the line for Littleborough’s second try. Converted by Coop.

A rare attack from the Aldwinians near Littleborough’s line ended the half but the Littleborough defence held firm.

Half time: Littleborough RUFC 18 - 3 Aldwinians RUFC

The second half saw Aldwinians to get on top and they cemented their efforts with their first try of the game but no conversion.

Walton had to leave the field through injury and winger Ripley moved into centre three-quarter.

Littleborough were awarded another penalty award - converted by Coop.

Play was held up due to a further Aldwinians injury and at the same time Littleborough's Irving had to go off with a head injury.

Pressure once more on Littleborough’s try line but once again solid Littleborough forwards defence saw them eventually taking play downfield with an eventual distance kick to touch by Park.

Aldwinians came right back at Littleborough into their five metre area.

Ashworth suffered an injury that forced him to leave the field of play; Stuart Bairstow came straight back on to replace him.

In the last minute of play Aldwinians crossed the line for their second try, but no conversion.
