Littleborough Boxing Club reopens

Date published: 03 January 2017

The Mayor and Mayoress, Ray and Elaine Dutton, declared Littleborough Boxing and Fitness Club fully re-open to the public after an extensive renovation programme.

The centre, which has been a public house since 1807, first as the Horseshoe Pub (which can still be seen over the doorway) and more recently Littleborough Free Trades Hall, has finally closed its doors to all the beer and spirits and will now be a dedicated fitness and community facility,

The main focus of the renovations has been the installation of a new ramp that has been carefully designed in keeping with the conservation of the local area. The work has been carried out by the Environment Agency, with contractors Galliford Try, to a high specification and now means the centre is fully accessible to all members of the local community. A new front door has been provided free of charge by local firm PDS.

The day was celebrated in the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress, local councillors, all the contractors including Powerup Electrical, Watergrove Painting and Decorating, DPD Joinery & Maintenance to name a few and funders who have been played a part in the refurbishment, particularly NHS CCG Social Investment Fund, Sport England and Awards For All.

Centre Development Officer Julie Durrant and Head Coach Mark Oldham said they are "delighted with the work" and are now "excited to start planning a new exciting programme of activity at the centre".

The club already hosted Littleborough Boxing Club and will now be home to lots of other local groups including Baby Sensory, Baby Ballet, Littleborough Traditional Karate Club, Pure Pilates, plus offer a full range of exercise and fitness classes for the local community. The room main room and kitchen will also be hired out for private functions and parties catering for up to 80 people.
