Boxing: Abdul Khan beats Hamza Ali

Date published: 06 February 2017

Abdul Khan, of Hamer Amateur Boxing Club, beat Hamza Ali, of Walsall Wood ABC, at Darlaston Town Hall on Saturday.

When the bell rang for the first round Ali came out of his corner with his left hand held low while looking to land his big right hand.

He tried to lure Khan in by keeping his left hand low as bait but Khan didn't respond and waited until Ali tried to land his shots first. Ali began to use his jab to score points and find his range while Khan answered with fast combinations to the head.

Ali landed his first big blow to the face of Khan but was shocked when Khan replied with a whirlwind of punches of his own. This went on throughout the round, with Khan answering every punch Ali threw at him with three and four punch combinations at blistering pace.

Ali came out for the second round looking to impose himself more on the contest by meeting Khan in the middle of the ring to trade heavy blows; as both youngsters began to unload their punches the crowd greeted the exchange with a tremendous roar of approval.

As the round progressed, Ali continued to push forward and lean on his opponent while Khan responded with fast uppercuts and hooks that continually rocked Ali's head back.

Before the start of the third and last round, Hamer head coach Steven Connellan told his young prodigy that he was winning the contest but to expect Ali to come out all guns blazing. He was also told to continue to keep stepping back onto his back foot when Ali approached then unload his own left hand counter before moving and using the ring.

The bell rang for the last round and Khan stepped forward to surprise everyone in the room when he began to take the fight to his opponent. He constantly met Ali head on with blistering, non-stop punches.

Ali was tiring and could only try to land his big right hand, but every time he threw it, it was met by the Khan who replied with five ir six punches to the head.

Khan took the bout by unanimous decision.
