Eden Bearshaw appointed as Dale's new matchday announcer

Date published: 07 April 2017

Eden Bearshaw has been appointed Rochdale AFC's new match day announcer. He will take over from Dave Sweetmore from next season.

Growing up watching the Dale, Mr Bearshaw impressed the interview panel.

He said: “It is a dream come true to be offered this position and an absolute honour to take over the role from Dave. I grew up listening to him at the home games and whilst my music tastes are remarkably similar to Dave's, there are also a number of different tracks and artists that I haven't heard at the club before, which I’m excited to share with supporters.”

Mr Bearshaw has a degree in broadcasting and a radio background, and has followed the club from a young age. He will be shadowing Dave Sweetmore for the Dale's two remaining home games of the season.

Russ Green, Rochdale AFC chief executive, said: “Although we are all sad to see Dave leave, Dave was involved in the interview panel and it was a unanimous decision to appoint Eden. I think Eden will bring a fresh, young vibe on match days, but fans will still hear Dave’s musical influence through Eden with him having grown up listening and being inspired by Dave on match days.

“Dave is known as an icon within football and admired for his musical taste by many clubs. I know it was difficult for Dave to interview his successor but he will always be welcome back at the club. With him being such a massive Dale fan, I’m sure we’ll see him regularly.

“On behalf of everybody at the club, I would like to thank Dave for his 17 years of service and welcome Eden to the team. I am sure the fans will get behind and support him.”

Dave Sweetmore added: “It was without a doubt the hardest decision of my life leaving Dale after so long. I've spent almost half of my life here and met some of my best friends here.

"After we had met and interviewed Eden we knew straight away that we had the man for the job. He is a true Dale fan with a great taste in music and an excellent microphone technique. I'd like to wish him all the best as he takes over what is the best job in the world.”
