Pennine Cricket League: Wood Cup Preliminary Round

Some high scores were recorded in this round with Monton & Weaste leading the way with 361 for 3 resulting in a mammoth 272 runs win over Ashton who were all out in reply for 89. Ali Chugtai led the run chase with 108, backed up by Furan shafiq 77 and Muhammad Wajihuddin 62. Spare a thought though for Joe Kershaw bowled one run short of his century. After Danny Collins had taken 3 for 43, Josh Lenihan cleaned up the Ashton tail end with 4 for 2 in just two overs.

Middleton again topped the 300 mark. This time 327 for 4 when they entertained Micklehurst. Grant Jones made his second century of the season, 103 not out while pro Chris Williams 88 and Harry Gee 55 also being among the runs. Matt Foden put in a good bowling performance with 4 for 8 as Micklehurst could only reach 122.

Ayaz Tasawar hit 71 in Uppermill’s total of 166 all out at Heyside who replied with 168 for 4. For Heyside Carl Newton took 5 for 25 and when batting Ryan Barnes scored 65.

Shaw carried their league form into the cup when they faced Hollinwood, the day after their league encounter. Putting Hollinwood in to bat they then dismissed them for 125. Ex England fast bowler pro Sajid Mahmood making his first appearance after injury had a gentle introduction taking 1 for 11 in six overs. Jameel stuart then made 73 not out as they eased through to the next round by 8 wickets.

At Milnrow, Stayley batting first were all out for 168, Peter Skuse 54., while Lee Crabtree hit 64 in Milnrow’s reply of 169 for 4.

Moorside totalled 262 for 5 with Gerrie Snyman scoring 82, before they dismissed Werneth for 161, and Royton had an easy 9 wicket win over Oldham who collapsed to 66 all out batting first. Chirag Khurana taking 4 for 16.
