Cricket: Good times ahead for girls cricket

Date published: 16 May 2017

Heywood Cricket Club are giving girls the chance to make their cricket mark – whether they have played the game before or not.

The Club has launched their own all girls cricket team, Heywood Monkeys, under the guidance of manager Paul Wright, who has past experience of such a venture and fulfils all the criteria required to deal with young players.

He said: “This is an opportunity for girls of all ages to get into the sport, including those who have played the game before and want to get better or those wanting a chance to sample cricket for the first time.

“At Heywood you will learn about cricket and play some quick, safe and fun games, with hopefully lots of enjoyment along the way.

“Training sessions are on Tuesday nights, and games are scheduled for the rest of the season.”

Junior Cricket Committee chairman Matt Hilton said: “The initial response has been encouraging but we do want more girls to start playing cricket under the Crimble banner. So give it a go.”
