Cricket: A first class innings from Zamurad helps Norden to victory over Greenfield

Date published: 05 June 2017

Naveed Zamurad achieved his maiden half century for Norden on Saturday, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, with Norden in a bit of a mess when chasing a revised target of 139.

Greenfield had Norden on 78 for five, but Zamurad played a class innings to finish unbeaten on 58, and with Greg Butterworth scoring an unbeaten 24, Norden crossed the line without further loss.

Earlier in the day Greenfield had made a slowish start but put on 41 before Norden gained a breakthrough.

The innings then collapsed to 84 for six against some good bowling and good fielding which included a brilliant catch by Jack Harrison, and one by Greg Butterworth which removed professional Moonsamy for 21.

Greenfield’s tail then wagged. Hepworth scored 26 before being trapped leg before by Butterworth, and Ashworth scored 27 before he was caught by Malik.

Bird put on 15 then hit a Zamurad delivery into the safe hands of Rehan Udwadia, and Cadd claimed 16 to push the total on to 167.

A break for rain reduced the target to 159, then another break brought it down to 139.
Tolley and Pimm put on 53 for the first wicket but Stags quickly found themselves on 78 for five, with Pimm, Tolley, Ash Gowers, Udwadia and Jamie Pilling back in the shed.

Norden feared a collapse similar to that of the match against Monton and Weaste, but Zamurad and Butterworth stayed calm and scored the needed runs.
