Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festival at Littleborough Cricket Club

Date published: 08 June 2017

Over 50 women at the Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festival, known as Prosecco Cricket, at Littleborough Cricket Club.

The Prosecco Soft Ball Cricket Festival is aimed at giving women the chance to have ‘a go’ at cricket in a fun and friendly environment.

There was a free glass of prosecco on arrival for all the women served in a branded glass, with off field entertainment, stalls, food, music and a photo booth, and a free t-shirt for all who took part.

Julie Durrant, Lancashire Cricket Board’s women’s soft ball coordinator, said: “Soft ball cricket is a new, fun, fast, social game for all abilities featuring a, you guessed it, soft ball. The festival was aimed at encouraging new women into cricket and their friends to come along to have a great first experience of the game.

“The games during the day were all six-a-side with rules designed to make them fun, fast and easy to pick up. We definitely achieved this at Littleborough.”

Mark Whiteley, Secretary at Littleborough Cricket Club, speaking after the event added: “It was great to see so many women turn up and take part. We planned the event to ensure women felt supported, relaxed, not judged and could learn new skills in an inclusive atmosphere."

Littleborough Cricket Club was the first club in the county to host one of the England & Wales Cricket Board Soft Ball Cricket Festivals, branded in Lancashire as Prosecco Cricket.
