Basketball: Rochdale Rockets runners-up at Venice Masters

Rochdale Rockets came runners up in the Venice Masters International Masters Basketball tournament in Italy last week.

Masters teams from the 40+ and 50+ age groups from UK, Spain, Ireland, Italy and Germany were battling it out at the stunning Lido di Venezia outdoor venue, Pattinodromo in temperatures well into the 90s.

Rochdale made it to the final with an international line up, including new signings from Ireland and Croatia.

Rockets team: Donal Cummins, Allan Craigen, Michael Chubb (Irl), Phil Rose, Slavko Kovacevic (Cro), Steve Murray, Simo Banjac, Mike Lydon (Irl), Armando Ujcic (Cro), player/coach: Mark Thornley.

A spokesperson said: "The whole event, and the Saturday night White Party, was great fun and we all had a fantastic time.

"Thanks go to the host team, Sestieri Venice, all the organisers and volunteers."
