Golf: Jennifer Holt and Katie Stanley through to final of R&A Coronation Foursomes

Date published: 21 July 2017

Manchester Golf Club members Katie Stanley and Jennifer Holt (aka Shaw) have made it through to the Grand Final of the R&A Coronation Foursomes at St Andrews’ Eden Course.

Established in 1953, the Coronation Foursomes is the leading event for women’s club golfers in Great Britain and Ireland and is open to all members of affiliated golf clubs who hold a CONGU handicap. Teams compete in both local and regional qualifying until sixteen pairs emerge to play in the Grand Final.

Katie plays off a handicap of one, and at 18, was the youngest player to compete in the area final. As a grand finalist, her hours of practice and dedication to the sport are paying off.

The duo qualified with 44 points to play in the area final at Manchester Golf Club on the 18 July. They were first out and led the field at 9am, scoring a creditable 38 points. They waited anxiously as 80 pairs followed them in. The afternoon’s wind changed the playing conditions and their score held up throughout the day.

Former Ladies’ Captain Jennifer said: “Katie and I would like to thank the volunteers and staff of Manchester Golf Club for making the event a success. Thank you to the R&A for running this event. Katie and I look forward to the next stage of our adventure at St Andrews.”

The finalists will enjoy two nights at the prestigious five-star Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and Spa in St Andrews and the chance to participate in the Pro-Am of the 2018 Ricoh Women’s British Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club.
