Rugby League: Mayfield Preview

Date published: 31 August 2017

Mayfield are at home on Saturday in their penultimate game of the league campaign.

To have any chance of finishing in third place they need, realistically, to win both games and hope Wath Brow slip up.

Wath Brow are one point behind Mayfield but with two games in hand.

So, it looks like it could be fourth for Mayfield.

Coaches Calland and Butterworth both feel they should have been pushing for the top spot but both should feel proud of the way they have coped with the season, drafting in young players when needed and guiding them through the season with aplomb.

Saturday’s game should be a cracker with opponents Skirlaugh fighting to avoid relegation and still in with a realistic chance of doing so.

Again, there are players missing from the squad due to holidays, but the strength of the squad is already proven this season so there are no fears on that score.

The coaches are also hopeful there could be more new signings on the way before the end of the season so things are already shaping up for next year.

Saturdays game is sponsored by the 2007 Mayfield team who won promotion to the premiere division.
