Cycling: Andy Gorton - East Lancs RC 25m TT Champion 2017

Date published: 26 September 2017

Andy Gorton was the pick of the East Lancs riders who competed in the North Lancs Time Trial Association Combined Clubs 25 mile Time Trial event on Sunday - the event determines the East Lancs RC 25m TT Champion for 2017.

The N2528 course, starting on the A6 near Garstang, is a circuit also taking in the lanes around Nateby, Cartford Bridge, and St Michael’s on Wyre.

The weather was fine and the only risk for the riders were the potholes in the surface on the lanes.

The East Lancs RC riders taking part recorded the following times:

  • Andy Gorton, 1 hour 0:48 minutes
  • Shaun Leonard, 1 hour 1:49 minutes
  • Pat Cooke, 1 hour 6:32 minutes
  • Sam Wilson, 1 hour 7:48 minutes
  • Joe Cooke, 1 hour 9:23 minutes
  • Nigel Suter, 1 hour 12:01 minutes

For the third time in four years, Andy Gorton took the club’s honours with a great time, but he was pushed very close by Shaun Leonard who bettered his personal best by several minutes with a determined ride.

Leonard was 30 seconds in front at 14 miles but Gorton kept his effort going as Leonard faded a little in the final third of the TT.
