Date published: 13 December 2017

Lacrosse novice Freddie Roberts has been named as Man of the Match following Rochdale’s 12-10 victory over Boardman and Eccles U12 on Saturday (9 December).

Freddie, who is just eight years old, has only been playing lacrosse for eight weeks and received a special trophy for his achievement. He lives in Middleton and became involved in the sport as his uncle plays.

His dad, Simon Roberts, said: “Freddie really enjoys lacrosse.”

Rochdale Lacrosse Sports Club train every Monday at Matthew Moss High School and will next face Heaton Mersey on Saturday (16 December). The team are always looking for new players for their U12, U14 and girls’ teams.

The contact team sport has been played in Rochdale since 1888, making it one of the oldest worldwide. The club is one of the five eldest clubs in the UK, and one of the top 20 worldwide.
