Rugby Union: Littleborough Rugby Union Ladies, Mini and Junior sides results

Date published: 16 January 2018

Wins for Littleborough Rugby Union U14 and U16s boys were particular highlights as the club's Mini and Junior sides experienced a mix bag of results on the opening weekend of this year’s fixtures.

In their first ever visit to West Yorkshire outfit Pontefract, the under 14 boys showed their quality with an emphatic 48-19 victory. Against new opposition they executed a clinical and effective game plan in tricky conditions, keeping their cool and composure even when Pontefract threatened.

Also on their travels, Littleborough U8s ventured to Warrington for their first taste of rugby this year. They played some good rugby again and consistency in performance is allowing them to thrive.

Coaches Adam Bracegirdle and Neil Makinson said: "We are massively proud of all the players hard work, dedication and application on Sunday mornings and hope it continues long into the season."

Littleborough junior ladies’ teams welcomed Liverpool based West Park and local rivals Rochdale for an exciting afternoon of rugby. In the first game of the Under 15 age group round robin West Park squeezed past Rochdale before the latter faced off against Littleborough.

Littleborough took the game to Rochdale from the outset and were fully deserving of the 24-12 victory by the end. Littleborough 's Lancashire contingent of Darcy Bowker (2), Courtney Mills and Erin Stott all got their names on the scoresheet.

In the final game of a bitterly cold afternoon, West Park overcame a tiring Littleborough side 46-0. Forward Bowker once more shone with a bullish performance.

Littleborough Under 18 girls joined forces with some of the Rochdale ladies to face off against a mixed team of West Park and Rochdale. In a frenetic and absorbing game, the visitors took the spoils with a 40-30 victory.

Olivia Turner collected a well-deserved hat-trick in the pack, Emily Kershaw and Summer Harris added more tries to their personal tally and Jessica Chadwick continued her scintillating run of a form, scoring another try on top of the couple she scored the week before.

Earlier in the day Littleborough's U10s enjoyed a cracking game at home against a good side. The result went the way of the boys and girls in green, black and yellow.

In the final piece of action, Littleborough's U16s put together an imperious 62-0 performance against Tarleton.  Ben Gibson and Oliver Bamford were just two of the players to touch down over the white wash as they set down a marker for the rest of the season.
