Rugby Union: Littleborough Rugby Union Seconds 10 - 12 Leigh Seconds

Date published: 19 February 2018

Littleborough Rugby Union Seconds were left to rue what might have been as Leigh Second's secured their first win at Rakewood in three years.

In a tightly fought contest in muddy conditions, Leigh  used a blitz start scoring two tries to extend their league points advantage over Littleborough to eight points.

Leigh drew first blood; a try from their number eight came down the right-hand side where he found unexpected space and no patrolling defence and strolled in from close range.

Littleborough immediately responded with a penalty as Leigh were guilty of illegally playing the ball in the ruck. Fly half Richard Taylor slotted the penalty straight down the middle to reduce the deficit.

At times the game became very disjointed and Leigh utilised this to score their second. A kick into the Leigh half was met with a poor chase allowing the visiting fly half to scythe through the gaps and feed his centre partner for an easy try.

Littleborough found a way back into the game with a clinical and clever try. Quick ball from the line-out gave Taylor the chance to throw a superb flat mis-pass into the path of the on-rushing Danny Lawlor, who broke through the gap and dotted down for his first this month.

Both teams had opportunities to score more tries and points but were either met with good scramble defence or coughed up possession when well placed.

Littleborough play Fleetwood Second's at Rakewood next week.
