Hockey: Rochdale Ladies 3 - 1 Glossop Ladies

Date published: 27 February 2018

Rochdale beat Glossop at Oulder Hill on Saturday securing their fourth win of the season.

Glossop pushed early on and within the first ten minutes scored when a strike from the Glossop striker proved too powerful to stop.

Rochdale battled on and within the last couple of minutes of the first half they equalised. A sweep from Owen at the top of Glossop the D sent the ball to Gemma Hodcroft who passed to Roisin Pickering. Pickering passed the ball square and Katie Burrell sent it past the Glossop keeper from the back post.

The second half saw very much of the same play.

With a few opportunities missed on short corners, the effort shown by Rochdale’s players paid off with Rochdale soon going 2-1 up.

Pickering shot at the top of the D, whilst Molly Barker took to the back post, sweeping the ball into the back of the net.

Glossop started to tire and with Rochdale becoming more of a threat, they started to play more defensive with their attacks becoming few and far between.

Rochdale’s defensive unit was able to push up to support and the third goal came after Pickering took the ball down the middle of the pitch. Knowles made a run down the wing before receiving the ball on the edge of the D. Knowles crossed to Burrell, who sent the ball flying into the back of the net.

Captain Kie Leech said: “A well-deserved win for Rochdale who battled hard to get the three points.

The Player-of-the-match was Roisin Pickering.
