Grant Kershaw, 15, of Hamer Boxing Club, was "unlucky" to lose to Blaine Lambert, of Laisterdyke Boxing Club, at Aston Masonic Hall, Ashton-Under-Lyne in the national pre-quarter finals of the Junior Championships on Saturday.
The Hamer boxer lost the bout by split-decision against a talented veteran of over 42 contests with only eight defeats.
Hamer coach Alan Bacon said: “Grant boxed terrific and if he could just gain that little bit more confidence within himself then I believe he could have caused a major upset.”
