Rugby Union: Littleborough Rugby Club Girls Festival

Date published: 24 April 2018

Littleborough Rugby Club put on a Sunday of entertainment, fun and friendship as the 2018 Girls festival came to town.

Over 400 players and their families from all over the North of England made the trip to Rakewood.

Littleborough U13 girls held their own after having to split into two teams, Littleborough Pinkies and Warriors, as they came up against some really tough opponents and well-established rugby clubs.

They scored tries against all teams at the festival including Sandal, West Park Leeds, Old Crosslians and Preston Grasshoppers.

Morgan Pearson was a rock at the heart of the defence and provided the platform for Georgia Crossley, Niemh Clegg and Lucy Gregg to demonstrate their attacking prowess.

The team was awarded the fair play awarded by the referees for showing the RFU’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.

The U15 girls put out an A and B team. The B team played well but did not make it through to the finals.

Littleborough A team won all four games but lost in the semi final.

The Under 18s played well in the group stages, drawing with Eccles and beating Old Crossleyans and a combined Selby/Hull team but lost in the semi-final to eventual winners Ellesmere Port.

Sisters Olivia and Georgia Turner broke the line well and proved very hard to put down.

Chloe Boardman used her pace and nimble feet to round her opponents and make space for her team mates.

Megan Dickinson put in an accomplished performance in her first appearance at hooker, instead of her usual scrum half position.

Backs Hannah Mills and Jess Chadwick both returned from long lay-offs and exploited gaps in the opposition defence.

Summer Harris was excellent in attack and defence.

Aimee Thorneycraft is improving after joining late in the season and didn't look out of place with more experienced team mates.
