Sailing: Marsh clear winner at Hollingworth Lake

Date published: 01 May 2018

Richard Marsh, with Rhiann Bramwell as crew, was the clear winner of Sunday's racing at the Hollingworth Lake.

The cold north-easterly wind offered exciting downwind sailing which suited the RS200 dinghy.

Nick Brook, the early leader in the first race on the water, in his Solo, was soon overtaken by the faster boats but won the first race with a handicap advantage.

Les Bithell, with Emma Turner, in a Merlin Rocket was runner-up on the day.

Two young sailors in Toppers next featured in the results with Daisy Fisher getting a better result overall than Jasper Bramwell, despite the odd capsize.

Away from home, Jacob Din competed in a national Topper event at Grafham Water in very windy conditions and did well to finish 30th overall in his first venture to such an event.

Chris Massey took his Scorpion dinghy to Llandudno, with Ben Thackray, and finished fifth in a competitive sea event.

On Sunday 6 May, the club welcomes people to Try Sailing, part of the national series to encourage interest in the sport. The day starts at 10am and lasts until 3.30pm. There will also be the usual club racing activity to watch.
