Rugby Union: Littleborough Colts 12 - 10 Rossendale Colts

Date published: 02 May 2018

In a pulsating Lancashire Trophy final Littleborough Colts kept Rossendale at arm's length to take a narrow victory at Eccles Rugby Club.

For many of the 25-strong squad it was the final time they have turned out for the Colts.

Jordan Clark broke through the Rossendale defence to open the scoring for Littleborough. George Roberts could not find the target with his conversion attempt.

Rossendale opened thier account with a well worked try scored in the corner. The with conversion attempt missed.

The rest of the first half was played in middle of the pitch as each team tried to work a way through but both stood resolute in defence.

Rossendale caught Littleborough napping at the start of the second half and broke through the defence to scramble over the line to take the lead. The conversion attempt missed.

Littleborough were under the cosh and this lead to ill-discipline and a heavy penalty count against them.

Good hands from the Littleborough backs turned Rossendale and had them scrambling with last ditch defence, but the pressure told when from the back of a ruck, scrum half Cameron Kenworthy darted over for what was the winning try. George Roberts slotted the extra two points.

The last ten minutes were tense and a real battle with Rossendale attacking, but time and again they were met by a great defensive effort from Littleborough.

Once the referee gave the nod for the last play the ball was kicked into touch and Littleborough became Lancashire Trophy winners for the 2017/2018 season.
