Cricket: Butterworth had Nelson spinning to give Norden victory

Date published: 07 May 2018

Greg Butterworth had Nelson spinning in the Worsley Cup match at Norden on Saturday.

He took five for 14 as the visitors were dismissed for 81, wicket-keeper Lee Crabtree having earlier taken three good catches.

The first of those catches saw off Lewis Bradley, but only after an umpire’s deliberation that bat had connected with a Chris Humphreys delivery.

The second saw Crabtree dive to his right to take a low catch off David Crotty, and the third ended the knock off Matthew Pettinger. It gave Harvey Fitton the first of his two wickets in an impressive bowling spell.

Russell Bradley was caught by Josh Tolley to make it 70 for four, and the remainder of the innings crumbled as Butterworth destroyed the batting from the Shawfield end.

A win for Norden was never in doubt.

Tolley and Crabtree took the total up to 52 before the former was bowled by Reeza Hendricks.

Crabtree was caught, Joe Humphreys was stumped, and Norden were 57 for three.

Jack Harrison hit an unbeaten 20, and Steve Pimm rounded off the win with a legside six off Hendricks.
