Boxing: Aman Hafeez stops Jay Nicholson

Date published: 11 May 2018

Aman Hafeez, of Hamer Amateur Boxing Club, travelled to the 147 Club in Walkden and beat Jay Nicholson from Tylsley Centurions Boxing Club.

From the start Nicholson showed his intent by getting in close and forcing the action.

Aman used his speed of punch just to try and match Nicholson before starting to find his range with his jab and his right-hand punch.

The Tylsley boxer continued to take the fight to the Hamer youth but with about a minute left in the round it was Hafeez who was pushing Nicholson back as he continued to land his jab and a solid right hand.

Hafeez forced the Nicholson into his own corner with his jab before he unloaded heavy one, twos.

Nicholson covered up the best he could, but Aman found the chin with a fantastic lead hand uppercut which forced his head up for the Hamer boxer to land a crunching right hand to the chin and the referee immediately stepped in to administer a standing eight count for Nicholson.

As soon as the count had finished Aman rushed in to try and end the contest but as both boxers exchanged punches the bell rang to end the round.

The bell rang for round two and Nicholson stayed out of range and allowed Aman to dictate the contest. The Hamer boxer continued to work everything off his jab and it was only a matter of time until he landed another powerful right-hand punch and when he did the referee gave Nicholson another standing eight count before calling an end to the bout in favour of the Hamer boxer.
