Boxing: England spot for Queensway ABC boxer

Date published: 24 May 2018

Zain Ahmed, a former GB silver medallist, who made the switch from his former club Bury ABC 12 months ago is proving a force to be reckoned with in the junior division.

Ahmed put in a very strong showing in the England championships this year but was denied a spot in the at the quarter finals stage, however off the back of this he was invited to an open talent day assessment at Tamworth ABC in Birmingham putting himself up against the best lads in the country.

After impressing the England coaches with his technique and aggressive style during the open spars he and the club received the news that he had been awarded a place on the team joining his team mate Crawford.

Ahmed will now attend monthly training sessions with their England team mates up and down the country, benefiting from strength and conditioning coaching, nutritional advice and guidance, and mentoring from the England team coaches with the hope of being selected to represent their country in forthcoming international tournaments.

Coach David Hodkinson said: “It’s great to see lads who have previously trained elsewhere and not reached their full potential come on board, correct their faults, learn new skills and finally start to fulfil their dreams and represent their country.

“These lads are by no means at their best yet but the long journey has started and it has started well.”

Queensway ABC isy looking for a new kit sponsor for the new season. If you or your business could help in anyway please contact head coach David Hodkinson:
