Cricket: Pagett and Kaye debut in T20 rain-affected win

Date published: 08 June 2018

A rain-hit clash away to Littleborough Lions resulted in Heywood Cricket Club Monkeys scoring their first victory – on rate rate – in their Marstons T20 Group.

Heywood made 174-5 from an interrupted innings reduced to 18 overs, and the Lions were 64-3 from 7.1 overs when a storm washed out play for good, with the visitors narrowly coming out on the right side of the scoring rate calculation.

The evening proved a notable one, however, for two Heywood youngsters making their senior debuts.

Tom Pagett, aged 17, and Jacob Kaye, 15, were called up to bolster the ranks and did themselves and the side proud.

Pagett opening the bowling and responded with three tidy overs yielding two wickets. One of them resulted in a neat catch taken at mid-wicket by Kaye, who fielded enthusiastically and competently.

Feature of the Heywood innings was a whirlwind 35 off 11 balls at the end by Riley Paterson to lift Heywood to a challenging total, after Bobby Cross had weighed in with 46 opening the batting.

Heywood have now won one and lost one, to Heyside Hyenas, in the group and their next game is at home to Royton Renegades on Friday (8 June at 6pm).
