Cricket: Heywood Thirds well beaten

Date published: 03 July 2018

Heywood Cricket Club’s Third team were on the wrong end of a superb batting display at Astley Bridge.

The home side made 260 from 37.1 overs led by 118 from opener L Wainman. Long-serving players Rick Purser claimed 3-56 and Dave Fare 2-46, while there was a welcome and successful return by Sam Byrne with 4-60.

In reply, the visitors could make only 128. Dan Joesbury, batting at number nine, top scored with an unbeaten 32 and there was also 20 from Heywood’s Under-15s team wicket-keeper Liam Forshaw, who had earlier underlined his promise behind the stumps.
