Bringing Fans, Club and Community Together

Date published: 01 March 2009

After the first few really hectic weeks of getting the club up and running from scratch, the Steering Committee of the Rochdale Hornets Trust are keen to widen involvement with the club amongst the Rugby League community of Rochdale. As part of this the Club are proposing to set up a Hornets Liaison Committee which will:

  • Help to develop the relationship between our clubs
  • Share best practice and progress made
  • Be a forum for discussing future plans
  • Enable clubs and groups to put their views directly to Hornets Rugby League

Hornets are inviting all the amateur clubs in the borough and outlying areas, the Rochdale Fijian Association, as well as the Hornets ex-Players’ Association, to send up to two representatives to each meeting.

Hornets Rugby Leagues Chief Operating Director, Joe Pitts and Community Development Manager Matt Gartland will be present, along with members of the Steering Committee.

Paul Ormerod, President of Rochdale Hornets Rugby Football Club Society Limited says:

"We will welcome everyone's input to the future sustainable development of Hornets Rugby League and the amateur game and to the good working relationship between all of our clubs for the continued development of Rugby League in our district."

Initially, Hornets are suggesting that the Liaison Committee meet monthly. The proposal is for the first meeting to be held on Thursday 5th of March at 7.30pm at the Spotland Stadium, home of Hornets Rugby League.

Mark Wynn, through his strong links within the local amateur game, will be contacting the various clubs in the week with more details.

Hornets very much hope that all clubs and organisations will be represented in what will be an exciting new way forward for Rugby League in Rochdale.
