Uppermill gain revenge for cup final defeat

Date published: 24 August 2009

Six days after suffering Tanner Cup agony, Uppermill exacted their revenge and also wrecked the last unbeaten record in the Armstrong Office Furniture Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

Matt Taylor’s men beat their cup-finals conquerors Bamford Fieldhouse by eight wickets at Leefields, thanks to a brilliant 116 not out by Zeeshan Khan and Nathan Boote's belligerent 53.

Leaders Bamford, with professional Stephen Parry making 53 and Simon Marshall compiling 49, rattled up a more than respectable 231. Taylor took four for 49.

But Pakistani overseas amateur Khan, who in reaching his century became the first batsman to score 1,000 runs this season, and Boote made sure this was Uppermill’s day.
