Hornets add six new players

Date published: 30 October 2009

New coach John Stankevitch has had a busy first week as Hornets boss after recruiting six players to his squad.

And with more signings expected before next week, Stankevitch is tackling Hornets' problems head on as he prepares for the 2010 Championship One season.

“I have had to hit the floor running, however the Hornets are a club with a great name and history, which has made the job of recruiting new players easier,” the new coach said.

Jay Duffy, Adam Bowman, Steven Roper, Liam Grundy, Craig Tunstead and Phil Wood all signed on the dotted line this week.

Former Workington player Duffy brings plenty of experience at fullback or stand off, Bowman is a young centre with first team experience at Widnes Vikings, Halfback Roper rejoins the Spotland outfit after suffering a broken ankle last season, Hooker Grundy extended his stay with Hornets after playing with them last year, Tunstead will add lightning pace to the side while Wood has vast experience at Championship level.
