Rochdale Premier Cricket League round up

The third season of in-door cricket league started on 13 November 2011. The league is organised by Rochdale Sports and Cultural Links (RSCL).

This year 10 teams are taking part and they are: 8 Lions, 8 Worriers, Bury Panthers, Max XI, King Lions, DGS, DLCC, Rochdalians, Peshawar Panthers and Unique.

The year the league is being played at Middleton Supports Arena and Hopwood Hall College, Middleton Campus – meaning two matches are played at the same time.

The first two matches of the league were between Rochdalians and King Lions and Max XI and Peshawar Panthers.

Rochdalians won their first match with an ease. Batting first they scored 151 runs off 8 overs. Excellent batting from Hamid 32 runs (not out) and Atif 32 runs (not out). King Lions were bowled out for 85 runs.

In the other match Peshawar Panthers batted first and scored 97 runs in their allotted 8 overs. Good batting from Waseem 31 runs and Shakir 27 runs. Despite excellent batting from Amjad (30 runs) Max XI scored 91 runs and lost the match by 6.

The next two matches were between Unique and Bury Panthers and DGS and 8 Lions.

Bury Panthers batted first and scored 112 runs. Good batting from Hanif 40 runs (not out) and Nayar 15 runs. Unique lost the match by 13 runs and were bowled out for 100 runs.

In the second match 8 Lions batted first and scored 103 runs. Good batting from Javed (Wiqi) 20 runs. In response DGS made 91 runs and lost the match. Good batting and bowling from Asif (Papu) 15 runs and took 2 wickets for 9 runs.

The last match of the day was between DLCC and 8 Worriers. 8 Worriers failed to turn up and DLCC got 2 easy points.

The organisers, Abdul Quyyom, Tayyab and M Siddique, thanked all the teams and spectators for taking part and for showing a professional attitude on the first day.

They also appreciated all the help given by volunteers and in particular Tayyab, and Faisal helping with umpiring and scoring duties.
