Mixed tag rugby league festival returns to Rochdale

Date published: 27 December 2011

Europe’s largest adult rugby league festival returns for its fourth year in June 2012.

The Rochdale International Mixed Tag Rugby League Festival was launched in 2009 with 16 teams increasing to 27 teams for the 2011 event. 2012 promises to be even bigger and better as the organisers aim to attract 32 sides, double the initial event.

The strength of the festival has been its ability to attract teams from all across Great Britain and Ireland as well as the ever popular French teams who take the field alongside British based Kiwi, Aussie and Fijian Rep sides.

This year a team from Malta are looking to debut to continue the International feel.

With men and women playing together in the same sides, players who have never played Rugby of any sort will be playing in a competition with current and former Super League, NRL and Championship players,

Tag Rugby is a fabulous vehicle for engaging with new or lapsed players and getting them involved in Rugby League as well as being a superb recruitment aid for existing clubs.

The non-contact rules allow for all levels of ability, size or gender play in this highly social version of the game.
