Activity Club members meet Sir Steve Redgrave

Date published: 30 May 2012

Members of Hollingworth Lake’s popular activity club were invited to Salford Quays to train with Manchester Wildcatz Canoe Polo team and met Sir Steve Redgrave.

Dave Hunt, Outdoor Activities Development Officer, said: "On arrival at Salford we all got changed into our canoeing kit and noticed a film crew near the water's edge. I recognised the presenter as Sir Steve Redgrave, I thought it would be a great opportunity for the youngsters to meet Steve so I asked if he would be able to spare a minute to talk to the group and to take a photo. Despite his busy day reporting on the world rowing championships from Switzerland he was happy to come and meet the youngsters and pose for our photo.

"Following this excitement, the day was a great success, the coaches from Manchester Wildcatz were all impressed with the kayaking ability of the Hollingworth Lake youngsters, especially our captain Sam Rafter and are hoping to recruit them as part of their team in the future."
