Date published: 09 July 2013

Siddal Moor under 15s Handball Team went to London recently and competed in the National Schools Handball Finals.

The event took place at Sporthouse, the official training venue for the Olympic handball teams and 46 schools from around the country competed in the finals. The girls were accompanied by school PE staff Mrs Tough, Miss McMahon and their coach Mrs Whitehead.

There were 220 entries into the tournament this year and the London 2012 Olympics has been a boon for the game, raising the profile of handball in such a way so that it now the fastest growing sport in England.

The girls finished a very respectable thirrd overall.

A spokesperson for the school said: "This is a fantastic achievement because this is the first time that they had competed at this level powering through the regionals to get to the final.

"A massive well done to all the girls from all the staff and students at Siddal Moor."
