Date published: 26 February 2014

Hopwood Hall College rugby team are top of the North West Premiership,  the North West Regional Cup champions and remain undefeated for the season.

Today’s (Wednesday 26 February) match, against Wigan and Leigh College, at Thatto Heath in St Helens, finished 40-12 with scorers for Hopwood including Declan Sheridan, Brandon McIntosh, Alex Jobson, Tom Hadley and James Tetlow.

The team’s winning streak has continued for the entire season and they will now go on to play the best of the other teams in the National Cup aiming to prove that they’re the best team in the Under 19s College Rugby League.

Matt Calland, Rugby League Academy Manager, said: “We’re all so proud of the team. They’ve had an amazing season and remain unbeaten, although the semi-final earlier this month was nail-bitingly close, ending 28-24.

"We’ve seen off other top rugby academies including Wigan, Warrington and Salford.

Wigan and Leigh College are a great team and today’s game was an enthralling encounter; we’re thrilled to have come out on top.”
