Shawclough U10 Thunder 3 - 0 Castleton Juniors U10

Date published: 07 April 2014

A goal from Danyal Johnson and two from Joshua Smith gave Shawclough the victory against local rivals Castleton Juniors, a result that keeps them top of the Heywood Mini Soccer U10 League.

In the first 15 minutes both teams were closely matched but Shawclough then found another gear and controlled the game with ease winning 3 - 0.

Shawclough Manager Eugene Warrener said: "With our first choice keeper Alex Cockerill being injured, Joshua Warrener was between the posts for his full debut and he secured a clean sheet - what a keeper.

"But this game wasn’t about individuals but more the strength of the team, playing as a unit, all with a set task – very disciplined and focussed, having fun.

"Big thanks to Ruchi’s of Whitworth Road Rochdale who sponsor the team.

‘Man of the Match’ was Thomas McHugh.

‘Player of the Day’ was Joshua Smith.

Excellence awards 'Solid as a rock' to Joshua Warrener, Mikey Driffield, Adam James and Naeem Ahmed.
