Date published: 12 June 2014

Ruth Walczak, 25, from Healey, Rochdale, has been selected in the Great Britain Rowing team for the World Rowing Cup II. The World Rowing Cup II commences on the 20 June and runs until the 22 June in Aiguebelette, France. Ruth will be representing GB in a lightweight, single scull race.

Ruth previously won the bronze medal at the World Championships in 2013, which was held in South Korea.

Shelearned to row at Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club, and was the first female from the club to represent Great Britain at a senior world championship.

The GB rowing team, which was announced on 10 June 2014, features changes since the European Championships, which was held on the 1 June in Belgrade.

Performance Director, Sir David Tanner, said: “We are fielding a strong squad but one where we test out young rowers and new combinations.

"This is a critical year in the Olympic cycle and the Chief Coaches, Paul Thompson and Jurgen Grobler, are aiming to win medals but also to tease out our longer-term strengths.”
