Mayfield Preview

Date published: 27 June 2014

Table topping Mayfield make the long journey to the east coast on Saturday where they face Myton Warriors of Hull.

This will be a tough game for Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth’s men with Myton only losing one of their last ten games, that being the 40 – 20 defeat at the Mayfield Sports Centre in the reverse fixture in April.

The morale boosting victory over Oulton last week lifted Mayfield into first place in the division but coaches and players alike are aware there is a long way to go before they start patting each other on the back.

Saturday will be business as usual as they attempt to extend consolidate their position at the top. Last week's win was especially satisfying after losing at Oulton earlier in the season but also the way the team played in achieving the win.

Once again the forwards dominated the opposition with Joe Qanuici, and Callum Marriot in particular standing out, their work rate was unbelievable the same goes for Paul Brearley and Todd O’Brien who lead the players round the pitch all afternoon with great success.

Si Moore also made an impressive return after a lay off and will be looking for a repeat performance in Hull. As with all good teams confidence plays its part in every performance the secret to success being not to be over confident, this is some thing the side are not guilty of but all things being equal their trip back to Rochdale should be a happy one.

Dunc Simpson and Anthony Greaves take the NWML side on the road as they make the somewhat shorter journey to Warrington based Rylands. Despite losing out last week the coaches were pleased with the way the lads finished the game, scoring four tries in the last quarter after a shaky start.

Training is still not what it should be nd this is the main reason they are losing games. They have the skill and ability to beat most of the teams they are coming up against but lack of training and a game plan is making their task much more difficult.

With a cup final coming up in a few weeks hopefully the lads will get it together and give the coaches the dedication they deserve. Pictured below are the NWML players hoping to perform well.
