Springfield Park Junior Football Club
Craig Dawson, U21 England International and Premier League player at West Brom, was at the the official opening of a new youth football club at Springfield Park. Craig used to play on the pitch at Springfield Park as a junior footballer himself.
Springfield Park JFC have two teams (Under 11s and U12s) and play in the Heywood Mini Soccer League. Their training ground is the football pitch in the middle of the running track with a plan to return the home and away games next season to the park.
When the club started three weeks ago, the pitch was in a terrible state of repair but with no funds, Rochdale Council are unable to offer any assistance to cut the grass.
However, in a period of three weeks the club now has over 30 children registered with the teams.
Currently the parents, with charitable help from Greenman Landscapes, have managed to clear half of the pitch and get it close to a playing condition but its proving to be too big a task. Anyone able to offer assistance please contact the club at:
