Mayfield Preview

Date published: 17 July 2014

Mayfield begin a run of away games on Saturday as they travel to face Dewsbury Celtic in a Division One of the Kingstone Press NCL fixture.

The away fixtures are necessary to allow Mayfield to carry out some much needed pitch remediation work which is already under way.

Saturday's game pitches Mayfield against one of the teams already in the relegation zone and battling for survival. Teams like this can be a real banana skin and Mayfield coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth will not be taking anything for granted as they select their best seventeen for the job in hand.

There are still several players missing through injury and suspension with Mark Biggins having spent most of last week in hospital after sustaining a stomach injury in last week`s victory over Eccles. Despite the injury Biggins still insisted on returning to the pitch to finish the game, testament indeed to his dedication and toughness.

Also missing are Luke Sampson and Jack Sampson, there is also a doubt over club captain Todd O’Brien who is struggling with an arm injury.

Two players out suspended are Joe Qanuici and Ben Butterworth.

Saturday should see the return of Declan Sheridan and Simon Moore.

The form the team are in at the moment and the quality of the players in the squad should be enough to see the Rochdale side through and keep them in the hunt for promotion.

Last week's Friday night game produced some excellent performances, notably from Callum Marriott and Ryan Bradbury in the forwards with Sean Mulcahy also putting in a good show, while in the backs Paul Brearley and Sam Butterworth controlled the game and were well supported by Rob Kershaw and Liam Whalley and all will be looking to reproduce this form on Saturday.
