Mayfield Preview

Date published: 24 July 2014

Mayfield continue their promotion push on Saturday when they travel to Normanton Knights of Wakefield.

Normanton handed Mayfield a lesson when they visited three weeks ago with their experienced half back destroying a weakened Mayfield side.

Coaches Calland And Butterworth will be hoping for better things as they welcome back Ben Butterworth and Joe Qanuici from suspension and strong running Ryan Bradbury from injury.

Another positive is the form of forwards Gareth Ellison and Sean Mulcahy who both had impressive games last week at Dewsbury, and Declan Sheridan who also stood out in the victory.

These are the games you need to win if you are serious about promotion and Mayfield are certainly looking to be going up at the end of the season.

As league leaders Mayfield got a lot of stick at Normanton last time out as they were put to the sword so they will be out to redress the balance and should be strong enough to do so.

Mayfield NWML are Wigan bound as they as travel to Golborne to take on Leigh Miners in the final of the NWML bowl.

"This is a massive game for the lads and one which we are definitely capable of winning," says coach Duncan Simpson. "Its been a while since we contested a final so we are really up for this.

"I am still a little disappointed in the lads attitude to training but those that have trained have put in a great effort.

"Anthony Greaves and myself will be looking for the same commitment on the field on Saturday.

"We will delay naming the squad until we see who we have from the first team squad but hopefully we will be strong enough to come away with our heads held high and a winners medal in the trophy cabinet."

Anthony Greaves added: "If we can win it will be the first silverware that me and Dunc have picked up as coaches so we will be treating the lads to a good drink back at the club."
