Mayfield Preview

Date published: 07 August 2014

Mayfield make the short trip to Saddleworth Rangers in a Kingstone Press Division One fixture on Saturday.

Games between these two don’t generally need any added spice but this one certainly has that as Saddleworth try to battle their way out of the relegation zone and Mayfield look towards promotion to the Premier Division.

Mayfield will be without Mark Biggins and Luke Sampson, both missing through injury. Despite that they will be fielding a strong side, the rest of Matt Calland's squad reporting fit after last week's rest.

Dunc Simpson and Anthony Greaves also have a short journey on Saturday as they travel to Accrington. The side will be looking to win this weekend's game as they re-group after a poor season so far - this is a chance to get back to winning ways after putting in some good performances lately but seeing nothing for it.

Last week's game was abandoned after a serious injury to the St Anne's full back with Mayfield just gaining some superiority in the game. If they can take that improvement into this weekend's game they have a good chance of taking the points.

The influx of youngsters has been a real boost to the team with Daley Schofield being particularly impressive with his non stop style of rugby and willingness to get involved in everything on the pitch.

Fixtures 9 August 2012
NCL Division One: Saddleworth v Mayfield, KO 2.30pm
NWML Division Two: Accrington v Mayfield, KO 2.30pm
