Norden lead table by seven points after victory at Werneth

Date published: 11 August 2014

Norden now hold a seven points lead at the top of the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League Premiership following their win at Werneth on Saturday.

The Stags took first knock and totalled 245 for six. Werneth’s reply was going well at one stage, but they lost their last seven wickets for only seven runs.

Hashum Malik took three wickets in his 16th over and finished with figures of five for 47. He missed out on a hat-trick when a chance was put down.

Daniel Salpietro took the other five at a cost of 55 runs, that following his earlier knock of 87.

Salpietro and Simon North, who opened the batting in the absence of Simon Harman, put on 50 before the skipper was caught out for 25.

The professional and Nick Brierley then made the bowlers suffer with a stand of 122 which was ended when Salpietro was bowled by Wilson.

It was then a case of adding quick bonus runs, and four more wickets fell as a result.
Brierley went for 68, Matthew Williams for 18. Dan Buckley, who is growing more confident with every innings, was unbeaten on 15.

Werneth’s reply was given a great start by Levi Thompson-Mathews and pro’ Zimmy Khan, but a breakthrough was achieved with the total on 96 when the former was bowled by Salpietro for 44.

Ten runs later Shah was trapped leg before by Salpietro, then Khan was bowled by Malik for 67 and the way was open to the tail end.

Ali Muzaffer (21) and Matthew Taylor (19) featured in a bit of a stand until Salpietro had Muzaffer caught behind by Williams and it then became a rout, the last six batsmen on the list producing only six runs between them, and four of those came from No 10 Khan (R) who was one of two who offered accepted return catches to Salpietro.
