Rochdale Underwater Hockey Club in the BOA Junior National Championships 2014

Rochdale Underwater Hockey Club came fourth in the BOA Junior National Championships on Saturday 19 July at John Charles Centre, Leeds.

The best junior players from across Britain came together for the underwater hockey competition.

Under 12 team: Megan Walsh (playing with a broken finger!), Katie Moore, Laura-Jane Boughton, Isaac Rhodes-Dawson, Ella Tomlinson, Jacob Redmond and Tanya Harrison.

Their first match was against Plymouth U12. Rochdale had great teamwork but lost 6-2.

The next match was against Batley Barracudas A in which Rochdale won 9-0.

Against Batley Barracudas B, Rochdale won 10-0.

Against Pembroke U12, Rochdale won 5-2 thanks to Ella who scored two goals and Tanya who scored three.

Xarifa U12 scored a last minute winner and Rochdale lost 4-3.

Then TSW X U12 scored 12 goals against Rochdale, without reply. TSW X U12 went on to win the tournament.

The final heats match was against TSW Y U12, where Rochdale won 4-2.

In the play-offs, Rochdale met with TSW X U12 again and lost 8-0.

Their final match was against Xarifa, in which Rochdale won 6-2, placing them fourth in the tournament.

A representative from Rochdale Underwater Hockey Club said: “We were just outside the medals this time, but the team had plenty of good play and experiences to work on for next year.”

“Tanya was our highest scorer, and probably the highest in the tournament, with Ella coming a close second. Isaac also worked really hard and was our goal maker and saver.”
