M and M duo bowl Norden to victory over Rochdale

It was sweet for Norden on Saturday as their M and M duo bowled the Stags to victory over Rochdale at Redbrook.

But the win was tempered by the fact that strike bowler Martin Smith could be out for the rest of the season after badly damaging his left hand when going for a catch.

Smith had left the action before Hashum Malik and Ollie Makin ripped through the batting as Rochdale slumped from 93 for four to an all out 123 in chasing a winning target of 151.

The Norden total of 150 was mainly due to 43 from Nick Brierley and 33 from Ollie Makin. Simon Harman and Hashum Malik both scored 20.

Rochdale’s reply started badly, with Jon Henderson falling to a catch by Malik with only two on the board, and pro Wes Lansdale being caught by Makin with the total on 36.
Scott Butterworth was out for one, and Kelton Aughey was also out for one to make it 56 for four.

But Shane Wornes, with the help of Brown, pulled the innings round towards a possible much needed Rochdale win.

The total went up to 93, but Rochdale then suffered a staggering collapse. Brown was out for 14, Wornes was caught on a return catch to Makin for 48, Derek Faulkner was bowled by Malik without scoring, and Dale Highton was caught by Steve Pimm for two.

It was 96 for eight. Skipper Daz Cryer offered some resistance, scoring 17 before being bowled by Malik who rounded it off when he had James O’Neill caught by Daniel Salpietro.
