Rochdale Online Alliance Football League Report

Date published: 04 October 2014

With several clubs fielding unregistered players in the first month of the season all club officials are asked to check their team page on the website on a regular basis to ensure they do not fall foul of Rule 8O off the pitch.

On the pitch those particular results have unfolded most conveniently, the dreaded asterisk remains in close season hibernation as no clubs have had points deducted to date and the Management Committee trust it will remain so for the season’s entirety.

Woodbank, therefore, remain at the top of the Sartori Sharpening Services Premier Division though they will consider their goalless home draw with Sudden as two points dropped.

A Jack Lyons hat trick, his second in consecutive games, earned Rochdale Sacred Heart all three points against Rochdale Asia and allowed them to close the gap on the leaders to a single point. Alwarfali and Zaheer Hussain scored for an Asia side whose current results are not reflecting the level of perfomance they are putting in.

Fothergills maintained the one remaining one hundred percent record in this division with a 6-2 home win over Balderstone, Healey 3, Greenwood, White and Chris Holbrook the scorers.

Walsden opened their account for the season with a 3-0 away win at Falcon with goals from Town, Gale and Rooks.

Mighty Dragons and Fothergills 2nds are threatening to turn the Matthew Montgomery & Co First Division into a two horse title race as both recorded comprehensive victories to maintain their perfect starts to the season.

Dragons put nine past Falcon 2nds at Hollinwood Cricket Club with Danny Wilds also recording his second hat trick in successive games, Dinn 2, Gibson 2, Bailey and Shanley completing the scoring.

Meanwhile, Fothergills 2nds completed their fourth win in four with goals from Kibble 2, Jorgensen 2, Collins, Howe and Law against a Horse & Farrier side that is showing more promise and resilience so far this season.

Two other improving sides completed the day’s fixtures with pleasing results, Rochdale Galaxy are third after a Karl Warburton hat trick powered them to a comfortable win at F&W Rovers, whilst yet another hat trick star, Terry Jennings, earned Chadderton Park an excellent away point at Redvales against Hargreaves.

This season’s first two cup competitions are both league based and the first round of fixtures takes place this weekend.

Curiously, Group B of The Chairman’s Cup sees a repeat of last Saturday’s league fixtures, Balderstone v Fothergills and Rochdale Sacred Heart v Rochdale Asia, whilst the most intriguing match on paper in the Alletson & Mitchell Memorial Trophy comes in Group A with Fothergills 2nds hosting Rochdale Galaxy at Whittles Park.
