Middleton Trampolining Club on the up!

Date published: 12 November 2014

Middleton Trampolining Club (MTC) demonstrated their skills in displays at an event was organised by three members of the Middleton Rotary Club. Children aged six to 16 performed routines including high bouncing, front and back somersaults, twists and turns to guests including the president of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland for the year 2014/15, Peter King.

The club also took part in the first of this season’s British Gymnastics competitions in the North West. This was held at Robin Park Arena in Wigan and MTC took 17 children along to compete.

Heead coach, Lisa Lee, said they worked tremendously well and she was extremely proud of their achievements. MTC gained three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Lisa said: “This was a truly amazing result considering the athletes could not train over the summer due to our facilities not being available. The children are now continuing to train more regularly at Rochdale Leisure Centre in preparation for the next competition which will take place in Bolton this weekend.”

The club does not have its own facilities and despite being led to believe earlier this year that funding streams were available from British Gymnastics, things didn’t quite work out in their favour. However the club works closely with Rochdale Leisure Centre and St Anne’s Academy to provide sessions for people of all ages and abilities.

MTC hopes that one day they can set up as a centre of excellence but in the meantime, they are fundraising and applying for grants to build up their resources and equipment.

For example, they have kindly been given a donation of £500 from Mr and Mrs Mike Mee and they have won a funding bid to buy a competition level trampoline through ‘Sport England.’ This has already been ordered and will be available for use in November.
