Rochdale Online Alliance Football League Report

Date published: 13 November 2014

Mother Nature intervened for the first time this season as the Rochdale Online Alliance Football League programme was cut by half, including the much anticipated top of the table clash in the Sartori Sharpening Services Premier Division between Fothergill & Whittles and Woodbank.

The only top flight game to take place saw Walsden extend their excellent run to thirteen points from the last fifteen with a 4-3 win at Rochdale Asia. The win moves Walsden into third place and avenges their home defeat on the opening day of the season.

Fothergill & Whittles 2nds returned to the top of the Matthew Montgomery & Co Division One table with a routine victory over struggling Falcon 2nds at Littleborough Sports Centre, and it is to be hoped the weather gods are smiling this weekend as the top two meet at Whittles Park.

Fothergill have just that one defeat to Rochdale Galaxy to date but Wayne Attwood’s Mighty Dragons side arrive with the only remaining one hundred percent record in the league and a desire to reclaim that top spot.

Rochdale Galaxy moved up to third with an 8-2 win at Clayton over Chadderton Park, courtesy of four goals from Teejay Rigby, two from Mohammed Omar and one apiece for Nabeel Sarwar and Ezequel Mirand.

The day’s remaining fixture saw Horse & Farrier go agonisingly close to their first league point of the season against Wardle OB at Firgrove.

Beaten by the same opposition by the odd goal in five a month ago in the A&M Memorial Trophy this time it was the odd goal in seven, despite taking an early lead, as goals from Lumb 2, Howarth and McLoughlin secured the win that takes Wardle OB up to fourth. McHale 2 and Varty recorded the goals for Farrier on an encouraging yet ultimately frustrating afternoon for the basement side.

In this weekend’s Premier Division leaders Woodbank are at home to Rochdale Asia whilst Fothergill & Whittles face a tricky trip to Mark Horner’s White Lion at Bowlee.

The top two in Division One meet at Whittles Park and Rochdale Galaxy will be looking to close the gap on whoever loses out in that one with a home game against Falcon 2nds.

All games kick off at 2pm.
