Norden Cricket Club presentation evening

Date published: 14 November 2014

Norden Cricket Club President Brian Butterworth received a special award during the club's presentations on Friday (7 November).

Brian has served the club for 60 years, as a player, secretary, and president, and earlier this year he received a lifetime achievement award from the Lancashire Cricket Board (LCB). He then represented the LCB for the national awards at Lords, and during his visit there he was photographed with Mike Gatting. On Friday he was presented with an inscribed framed copy of that photograph.

The presentation was made on behalf of the club by John Holder who was Norden's professional in 1975 before going on to county cricket and then to the First Class umpires list. John paid tribute to Brian, and other tributes, via tele-links, including NCC professionals Peter Gladigau in Australia, Gus Logie in the West Indies, and Asif Mujtaba who now lives in Texas.

During the evening, a number of other players were handed awards.

The Geoff and Marion Hargreaves Trophy for the players' player of the season went to opening batsman Simon Harman. He scored 1281 league and Wood Cup runs in his first season with the club, and set a new CLL high by scoring 202 not out in a home cup tie against Radcliffe.

Simon was also awarded the Majorca Cup for best batting performance of the season (the 202 not out) and the first team batting award.

The Majorca Cup for best bowling performance of the season went to Simon North who took four wickets in four deliveries as Greenmount crashed from 151 for four to 155 all out in an LCB Knockout match at Woodhouse Lane.

The Hamer Cup (best performance in matches against Rochdale) went to Ollie Makin for his six for 54 and 33 runs.

Rehan Udwadia, who played regularly for his Lancashire age group team, won the Harry Schofield Trophy for representative honours and Dan Buckley won the Harold Sibbert Trophy for best junior in senior cricket.

Second team wicket-keeper Ross Collin won the Bob Tattersall Trophy for best junior fielder in senior cricket.

Each week of the season the team captains nominate their top three players from matches, and votes are collected at the end of the campaign to find the winner of the Asif Mujtaba Medal. This year two players were neck and neck throughout, but the one who had the edge to win the medal was Dean Lord. Dean also received the Derek Parker Trophy for most improved player of the season.
