Shahruf Ali defeats Daniel Puckering

Date published: 05 March 2015

Shahruf Ali, 12, of Hamer Amateur Boxing club, was victorious when he defeated Daniel Puckering from the City of Hull Boxing Club on Friday 27 February.

From the sound of the bell, Shahruf immediately came straight out of the blocks with fast hands and took the fight to his much taller opponent.

Shahruf constantly pressed forward with one-twos, followed by his lead hook which connected every time and all Puckering could do was move from corner to corner with the Rochdale boxer in hot pursuit.

In round two Puckering came out hoping to land his own punches but the Hamer youngster used clever head movements and a high guard to avoid most of them and when the Hull boxer did manage to land Shahruf was quick to reply.

It was plain to see that Shahruf was winning the contest but that didn't deter Puckering, nor his boisterous following.

The Hull youngster came out for the third and last round hoping to land punches and whenever he did the crowd stood to its feet and raised the roof, but Shahruf had an answer for the local lad every time with swift combination punches of his own.

Shahruf finished the round as the stronger boxer which led to an emphatic win for him.
