Central Lancashire Cricket League clubs play a game of patience

Date published: 09 March 2015

Central Lancashire Cricket League clubs will play a game of patience before making any major decisions on proposals for a Greater Manchester Cricket League which would be based on a pyramid system.

Talks are continuing on the proposals, and a prospectus is due to be launched at Old Trafford in late April.

There was a call from some delegates at Friday’s CLL meeting for club representatives to attend the April meeting of the league with a mandate from their clubs on whether or not the CLL should continue with Pyramid talks, or start trying to attract new clubs to the league.

But delegates favoured a counter proposal that decisions should not be made until clubs had seen what is in the prospectus.

It may be a special CLL meeting is called after release of the prospectus.

The Central Lancashire League will entertain the Bolton League in the first round of the Readers Inter-League Knockout, date and venue to be announced.

Dexter Fitton has been named as the new manager of the CLL inter-league team.

Admission prices to CLL matches this year will be the same as last season - £3 (£1.50 concessions) for league games, £4 (£2) for JW Lees Bitter Wood Cup games up to the final, £5 and £2.50 for the final, and £2 (£1) for T20 matches up to finals day when it will be £5 and £2.50 which will cover the semi-finals and final.

The TH96 Charity Challenge, held in memory of former Heywood and Middleton cricketer Tom Hardman, will be on Saturday 4 April, from 10am.

The nine-miles run/walk will be split into three stages – Rochdale Cricket Club to Norden CC, Norden to Heywood CC, and Heywood to Middleton CC.
